Big bear has some stupid rules about what bikes can be ridden in their trails:
Only Cross-Country and All-Mountain style bikes are permitted on the Scenic Sky Chair. No downhill specific bikes will be transported. Any one of the following four factors will disqualify a bike from being transported on the chair. 1. Bikes must be less than 35 pounds. - so, if I had a SC V-10 Carbon I can ride because its only 34lbs 2. Designated tire size must be less than 2.5. - most DH tires are 2.3-2.5 so we are good w/ the v-10 3. Front shock must have less than 6.5 inches of travel. - what if someone rolls in w/ a 180mm TALAS fork? 4. Bikes must have at least two chain rings unless they are single speed. - last but not least, if I rolled up w/ a Specialized Enduro or Stumpjumper EVO w/ 1x10 drive trains "OEM" I can't ride?
Eh, I'd rather go to Mt. Pinos than go up to BB not knowing if I can ride for sure...

Despite having all those rules listed, they don't really follow it or it may just be up to the guy operating the lift. When we went there a couple of years ago, I sent them an e-mail first giving them the make and model of my bike (Specialized Enduro SL with a dual-crown fork and bash guard) to make sure it was going to be ok. They said it was fine. I printed out the e-mail and brought it just in case. I didn't have to show them the e-mail and there were guys with 7+inch-travel freeride bikes and full face helmets getting ready to board the lift. Doh!
If you're unsure about your bike, do what I did and e-mail them ahead of time. Tell them you're with a big group of XC riders. But as long as it's not a full-on DH bike, you should be ok.
The $20 all-day lift ticket at Big Bear is worth it IMO. BTW, you could ride Big Bear for free if you're willing to pedal up to the top. Snow Summit just provides you lift access but the trails are actually outside their property.

I just rode BB (See pics) this past Saturday and they were not allowing Big Bikes on the lift. One guy was allowed to be over by 3 pounds. They turned away bikes with big >2.5 tires and Triple Crown forks. Luckily, they brought spare All-MTN bikes. One guy changed out his fork to be compliant. Stay away from the blonde lady....she's super strict. The other guys, Daniel and John are cool. At $20 for group discount, you can't go wrong. The BBQ up top was pretty good for the $. I noticed later in the day that a few DH bikes made it through. It was my first time and I can't wait to go back. May go again on July 23 if I can't make this one.
